We have a jig designed for any situation you can imagine but this design is special for shallow water. Do this and your hookset percentage will go up immediately. That gives the fish just a second to get the bait in its mouth and turn it a little. When I get a bite I step back to feel the bass before I set the hook and start cranking. I love to throw it on Berkley 50-pound-test Braid. That seems to work better than moving it fast. I slow it down when I fish it in shallow, sloppy cover. Almost anything includes walking it, skipping it or making it spit. My second choice of shallow water lures is for sloppy cover, more than just weeds, or open water. I want you to remember, though, that bass do live in shallow water all year long. Berkley Powerbait Maxscent The General Worm Nevertheless, it’s fall and that’s the water I’ll target from now until winter. For this blog I’m going to tell you that I’m talking about water that’s no deeper than 3 feet. It’s different in different parts of the country and in different lakes.
